I have a Denon DVD 2900 that has persistently given me problems. Will play CD's/DVD's one minute and not the next. Sometimes completely new discs are not accepted, sometimes old ones, sometimes they do work if i try them again.

It makes quite a loud spinning up noise that is not apparent when it does read, it then displays all 0's for the time on the CD.

I've heard there are firmware upgrades, will this solve my problem?

I had it 'chipped' to be multi-region - could this be the problem?

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

I've had similar problems with my 2900. I normally find giving the disc a good clean and popping in a lens cleaning disc solve the problem, but I've a couple of dvd's it always refuses to play. They all play fine on my £30 Eltax dvd player.

the 2900 has always been known as a pericularly fussy player.
the one i had from brand new was famous for not playing discs that had the smallest of fingerprints on it.
however it is still a fabulous player.
