Have the problems with this dvd been resolved? (compared to the first version)
Which ones ?
The ones you can find described in some threads in this forum...
I was hoping to narrow it down a bit...
Low MPEG compression disc artifacts, as seen with Seven R2 SE, Mulholland Drive R2, The Lord Of The Rings R2 , Matrix R2, Contact R2...............2800 Mk2 is better than 2800 Mk 1 but not acceptable, 3800 is much better, but it still trys to show the blocking, 3800 is acceptable in my opinion.
Freezes, lock-ups , hangs and so on, as far as I know 2800 Mk 2 is O.K.
Lip synchronisation also O.K. as far as I know. Same with audio drop-outs.
Chroma Upsampling Error Bug, same status as 2800 Mk 1, the " firmware fix " only applies to 3800 and A-1.
so does anyone know if they are working on it, i don't seem to hear anythin about firmware changes for the 2800 mk2, only the higher models. did they just give up or something???????
or are they STILL foolin around with the other models?
Denon Jeff over on AVS forum has stated that there will be no chroma fix firmware for the 2800mkII. I guess a pal progressive firmware will be as good as it gets. Maybe 2800mkII owners should start posting their firmware revisons like the 3800 owners?
Yes, the ESS design in 2800 Mk1/Mk2 is different to 3800/A-1.
No solution possible, apparently.
I'm thinking about purchasing a 2800 Mk2 some time early next year, to partner it with a Panasonic PT-AE100 projector. Will the unfixable Chroma bug cause any problems with this set up, or can you only notice it's effects if you look for it. Also does it effect, Component input / RGB / and S-Video or just Component?
It's just that most of the reviews of the 2800 Mk2 say it's a class product.
Denon DVD-2800Mk2 / Panasonic PT-AE100 is not an ideal combo.
There is a thread on AVS discussing a problem but setting this aside...
Most people will agree that once " chroma bug " has been identified, it is irritating, to some more than others, it doesn't actually concern me greatly, other aspects of a PQ are more important. It will be visible regardless of input method.
Personally, buy Philips DVD963SA or Denon DVD-3800 instead to match your projector, or maybe a Toshiba SD900 if not concerned about Pal Progressive.
Anyway, by next year plenty of other players will turn up.
Is this solely because of the chroma bug (or lip sync as per AVS forums thread), or do you think there are other issues.
Thanks for that - No doubt it's saved me a lot of time and bother. Maybe I will opt for the 3800 after all.
I picked up mine for £769 its worth it the better model the specs look the same but the reality is a diffrent story denon jeff lists about 10 things better on the 3800 in one of his q&q sessions.
I would challenge anybody to pick them both up and not buy the 3800 on build quality alone.
