Question Denon DRW580 tape dec

Recently got this denon drw580 tape deck but no sound from left channel via marantz pm4200 amp, also nothing displayed on meter for left on tapedeck. Just connecting the left is weak and scratchy sounding.
Hooked the Denon up to Rotel RA-820BX3 amp and both channel work fine and register displays for both channels on tape deck.

So must be something off with tape input/output for left channel on marantz amp?

But this marantz amp plays both channels from an old ariston wx510 tape deck and tape deck registers both channels on meter display.

Just hoping someone may know what is going on in this scenario?

Is it that the marantz a bit dodgy and denon detects this and outputs on one channel whereas ariston blasts away on both regardless. Not sure if that even makes sense but if it is along those lines and someone has a precise explanation, I would be grateful.

Both tape decks are double and same RCA cable used.

Regards, Gebs.
