Anyone got any recent and relevant experience? This looks like by far the most value-for-money processor out there perhaps with exception of the (now sold out) Nakamichis...?
I am extremely happy with my set of Genelec monitors and what they deliver for the size and relative price point and I don't see myself going back to passive crossovers (from active crossovers and dedicated amps on each speaker driver).
However it seems difficult to source processors at reasonable prices. I never understood why they cost more than the equivalent fully fledged surround amp/receiver from the same brand. I guess it's supply-demand, and targeting a different category of users? The components, including DACs and DSP, surely are similar these days given where how far technology has progressed, and the fact that the core components tend to come from the same specialist brands anyway?
As an example the current top-of-the-line Yamaha RX-A3050 for £2000 delivers Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 4K60p, HDMI 2.0a, YPAO, sophisticated network services and 11.2 channel amplification. Whereas the similar spec and same generation CX-A5100 processor uses the same ESS DACs and presumably internal processing, obviously minus all amplification, for more money (£2500)?
Anyway I digress - the Denon costs about £550, although it's getting a bit old in the tooth. Only HDMI 1.4a and no Atmos or DTS:X. Still looks decent value, however not much written about it online.
So has anyone tested one recently and has any views...?
