Denon AVR790 will not output sound to zone 2

I can push sound to the zone 2 inputs on the amp using an external source like an mp3 player plugged into the inputs for zone 2, but I cannot get it to internally send audio to the speaker outs.
I have:
Gone through zone 2 setup
Tried different inputs
Tried sending zone 2 audio from RCA outs

The only wan I can get it to make any sound is with an external source.
