I'm thinking of upgrading my receiver, my question is, would the Denon AVR2801 be a significant improvement on a Sony STR-DB830, bearing in mind I am using Arcam amps to power the front and centre speakers so the Denon would only be used purely as a processor and to power the rear speakers.

Not really worth it just for the processing and rear amping. You may as well get the 3801.

    Hi Rick,

thanks for the reply, so are you saying that the 3801 WOULD be a significant improvement or would I really need to go for a separate processor which would cost twice as much because I would then also need to buy an amp to power the rear speakers.

    Tracey
