Denon AVR-X4000 or Pioneer SC-LX57 with KEF R speakers?

    Hello,

I'm off to audition some KEF R300's with R200 centre and really want the Pioneer but the Denon is available £200 cheaper. My friend has the Pioneer and it's great. The package will be £2100 with the Denon, £2300 with the Pioneer

Is there a big difference between the two? Mostly for blu-rays/iTunes and some music.

I won't be able to afford a sub, hence looking at the R300 instead of the R100, and I'll be using my old Mordaunt Short Aviano 2's as rears.

    Cheers

    Dave

Great, but the SCLX57 is made by Pioneer and not by Panasonic.

I'd personally suggest neither and look at the Yamaha RXA2030 or the Marantz SR7008. I'd even go as far as suggesting the Denon AVR4520 given recent price reductions.

I'd also suggest you buy a sub at some point even if using larger speakers. You still need a sub for LFE duties. There's not actually that much difference between the lower frequency handling abilities of the R300 speakers when compared to the R100 speakers. There's less than 10Hz between the two and neither are what would be considered full range.

Ah, brain freeze moment; I did, of course, mean to say Pioneer!

The plan is to get a sub eventually, just can't afford it all now.

From what I read, the R300 is meant to be quite a step up from the R100. We'll see tomorrow.

The Yamaha is too pricey and I'm not familiar with the Marantz, I'll have a look, but thanks for the suggestions.

    Thanks

The R300 appear to be £400 more than the R100 from what I can see and this would get you a great sub like the BK Electronics XXLS400 or Monolith which would give you far more bass than the move from the 100 to the 300. Hence I would be tempted by the 100 and get a sub instead as opposed to getting the 300.

Interesting, one difficulty is that it's a business purchase and if I hit £2000 with one supplier, I can claim back the VAT. I've liked the rel 328 at sevenoaks, how would the BK Electronics XXLS400 compare?

Presumably the r300's will do better with stereo music?

    Thanks for the input.
