Denon AVR-X2000 problem

Hello, in January I purchased a new Denon amp from Richer Sounds in Belfast, all was fine for the first couple of months but it then developed an issue with switching itself off. It then continues to switch itself off and on. The problem has become more frequent over time.

I went through the manual and it stated there may be short in the speaker wire, so I checked this and installed some banana clips but the issue persisted. In fact, the issue occurs when nothing is plugged in at all - no speakers or HDMI cables, just the mains power lead. I thought it might be entering a protection mode due to overheating but the amp is in a well ventilated area and there are no signs of overheating. I had an Onkyo amp before this one and there were no problems.

I took the amp back to Richer Sounds and they tried to replicate the issue but said they couldn't, therefore did not send it away or replace it. I have the Supercare warranty for the unit.

I've taken a short video of the issue happening.

Would anyone have any recommendations on resolving the issue?

Thank-you very much.

If the receiver fails to exhibit the same behaviour at the RS store then could it be an issue with your mains electricirt and or the power point to which you've the receiver connected to? Other than this, show RS the video to prove your point.

One possible cause could also be that there's something interfering with the receiver's IR receiver that is causing the receiver to power down and back up again. Is the receiver going into standby or power down completely? Plasma TVs can sometimes cause issues like this to occur, as can some types of lighting.

Hi Dante thanks for the reply, I have tried different mains power points in the house and a different power cable with no success. I will try taking it round to a friends house and test it there. I do not have issues with any other electrical device in the house, the house itself is less than 2 years old.

Thanks

I hadn't considered an IR problem, I have a Samsung plasma TV close to the amp though it has not changed. It appears to be powering down completely since the red standby light doesn't turn on.

Thanks

I have moved the amp to another room and placed a cover over the IR receiver, the issue is still occurring. So I'm out of ideas!

Hi, did you managed to fix this problem as I've started experiencing a similiar issue whereby my receiver Denon avr x2000 jumps from HDMI 2 to HDMI 6 for no apparent reason. I also thought it could be an IR issue however i've removed the batteries from the remote but the issue persists. I've also tried removing the hdmi cable from the port but the issue still keeps happening. I've also tried turning the CEC HDMI control but this had no effect so im also at a loss as to what the root cause is.

Hi antcr I sent the amp back to Richer Sounds and they kindly sent it off to get fixed, I haven't got it back yet but they said the power unit was replaced.

Could you try turning off hdmi 6 from the menu?
