i used auto-setup on the denon after re-positioning of my main pair of speakers F L/R. It came up with out of phase warning. I checked and the connectors were the wrong way around on the left channel. This is because the calibration disc which uses a special tone confirmed that if I connect it + to - from the speaker and - to + for h/f / l/f to the amp etc. It is in fact in phase for the left channel. This I find quite strange but it does sound more balanced with the left speaker connected this way when playing music cd's in stereo. If I connect the left channel "in phase" this upsets the speaker balance and vocals appear to be coming mainly from the right speaker but when I swap the banana plug around at the amp end out of phase [in phase according to my test disc tones] vocals are more centralised and the sound is more balanced. what is wrong with my system? any ideas?

it sounds as if the speaker in question may be wired out of phase internally.
