Hi everyone,
My Denon AVR-2803 has various age-related problems - unreadable display, broken FM socket, but the sound is fine. Is it worth getting these fixed or would I be better off getting a new one? If so, how much would I need to spend in 2018 for equivalent sound quality?

The amp in its day was quite a powerful one with only two models above it as far as I can remember, the 3303 and the massive reference pre-power model

In retro spec, you can get away with the smaller AVR-X2500H, but in order to bring something on a par, you really ought to be looking towards the AVR-X3500H if you are looking for a direct replacement today for your trusty old AVR-2803. What is amazing is if you was to follow the same level today regarding the AVR-2803 being a third tier product, you'd looking at towards the AVR-X6400H or the newer AVR-X6500H

For features, even the most basic new Denon AVR's will show you what you've been missing with the expectation of that old fashion raw power that takes control of your speakers

As to whether it's worth repairing it, only you can decide that as sometimes tampering with something could bring its demise

Good advice from Shane but it all depends on whether or not you want to take the chance and expense of repairing the Denon. The current models may have a lot of additions that you are not really interested in, but that is the way all quality receivers are going regardless of make.

There is an upside for going for new. Atmos. You will have to purchase new speakers and faff around with either fitting them in or on the ceiling for best results. There are two other options with speakers placed high on a wall or for specialist upfiring speakers.

Quality wise with Denon in mind you would be looking at the X6400 for power and the audio quality you currently enjoy. All comes down to budget I suppose.
