Whats the best settings for my DENON AVR 2802 Amp for playing 5.1 movies since i got it i havn't set it up cause i don't know the best way to do it, I've got,

2 front mission M74 speakers
1 middle M7C1I mission speaker
2 rear mission M7DS speakers
mission M70AS sub woofer

I also feel i could get better quality playback when playing my CD music on it so i suspect i need to play about abit with settings if i knew the best ones to set it to.

any help on this would be great thanks.

Hi Wynock
I'm not shaw what settings you want but try these for your speakers
Fronts set 2 large
Centre set 2 Small
Surrounds set 2 Small
Sub set 2 LFE +Mains
Sub Crossover set 2 80

Hi

Or try all speakers set to small, all bass to sub. Crossover on the amp set to 80hz. Crossover on the sub set to max. To get the best out of the setup you really need a sound level meter so you can balance all the channels properly (to 75db).

Jase,

You always confuse me with this one !

When using the amp's internal crossover, why bother setting the sub's crossover to max level when it is effectively bypassed ?

The subs crossover isn´t bypassed unless your sub has a direct bypass switch. To get round this (if your sub has no bypass switch/setting) set the the sub crossover to max so you don´t get double filtering at the same frequency. eg having the amp cutoff at 80hz & the sub cutoff at 80hz means the signal is being filtered by two crossovers.

I found that I got best stereo sound by setting the sound mode to stereo with the fronts to small and a crossover of 80Hz. This produced the best stereo sound on my setup (2802, KEF Q1, SVS Sub).
