    Dear all,
It is about time I gave my system and upgrade and I was thinking of either the Denon AVC-A11SR or the AVC-A1SE.
Can someone give me, in laymans terms, the difference between the two?

    Thanks

    Hi

The A1SE was the Flagship amp, just about to be replaced by the A1SR.

The A11SR is one below and has (over the standard A1SE) faster processors, DTS 96/24, THX Post Processing for DTS-Discrete, Pro-Logic 2.

The A1SE has more power, weighs about 10kg more, and has an upgrade available which gives it the extra formats the A11SR has plus in addition it will have even faster processors, THX Ultra 2, Master Audio Delay, AL24+ Processing for 2 ch stereo amongst others.

If you can get your hands on an A1SE and then get the upgrade I would go for that.

Have a look at www.denon.co.uk for the complete specs on each unit, A11SR, A1SE (& upgrade) and the A1SR.

    cheers

Thanks for that. So can anyone tell me what the difference will be between the AVC-A1SE and the AVC-A1SR?

    Thanks

Denon A1SR has full bass management on the 8ch External input (very useful if you have a DVD-Audio player or SACD player that doesnt).

An improved Preamp section for better analogue passthrough.

Video Conversion (converts Composite, S-Video etc)

Power amp assignment (lets you assign the two rear centre amps to power a 2nd set of speakers in another room).

    I think thats it.

So basically if I don't have an SDAC player I would be paying several hundred pounds more for a few tweaks.

    Thanks for your help.

The sound quality of the AVC-A1SR is exceptional and the difference is more than just a few "tweaks". The video up-conversion makes a big difference on my Projector and as I also use an I-SCAN PRO the audio-delay (to compensate for lip-sync problems) is essential.

    A standard A1SE doesnt have:

    Pro-Logic 2
    THX Ultra 2
THX Post Processing for DTS Discrete
    Dolby Headphone
    DTS 96/24
    Adjustable Crossover (40/60/80/100/120hz)
    Alpha 24 Processing Plus
    Improved DAC´s
    New SHARC Hammerhead Processors
    Denon Digital Link
    Audio Delay adjustment.

And other tweaks. All these come with the Upgrade board.
The A1SR has all these plus the other above mentioned features.

    cheers

Why get an A1SE and then upgrade ... originally that was my plan until I discovered that I could get the AVC-A1SR at the same price and the SR is slightly better than the upgraded SE.

You can pick up a 2nd hand A1SE for 1300-1500 quid then get the upgrade for 600. Still makes it a few hundred quid cheaper than an A1SR. Finding a 2nd hand A1SE is the problem!!

The price for the A1SR varies though, seen them for 2500 or 3000 in the UK depending where you buy. Could always get one from Germany where its cheaper I suppose.

My A1SE is still sitting in the dealers in the UK waiting for the upgrade. I also asked the dealer to get hold of an A1SR and was going to part ex mine in against it. Only drawback is Denon currently have no stock of the A1SR & are still waiting for new upgrade boards to arrive.

I´ve left it with the dealer that I´ll take whatever comes first, Upgrade or the A1SR. I could do with the Bass management feature for my dvd-audio player so wouldnt mind the A1SR. But, its still going to cost me around 600 quid more than just getting the upgrade done.

The dealer has someone who will buy my A1SE but only if the upgrade is available soon.

Just got to wait and see what turns up first!!
