Denon AV amp and Xbox One X - Best setup?

Hi all

Just interested to know what the best setup with my Xbox One X, Denon AVR-X1400H, and my LG oled65b.

Currently my setup goes Xbox > denon > LG, with an arc return from the LG. The annoyance is I can’t get auto switching on the amp when I turn the Xbox on, and half the time, the denon switches back to LG hdmi if it doesn’t get a signal straight away.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

That could be a handshake problem so trying a new HDMI lead could solve it. However ARC can be a real pain and your problems are indicative of it's temperamental nature. I gave up long ago.

Xbox does have some limited device control via it's built in IR blaster if you go to
Settings->TV & Oneguide->Device Control

You can find some things in there but whether it can power on the receiver and switch to the correct input I do not know and ARC/CEC may still throw a spanner in the works.

Forget about trying to use HDMI CEC to automate anything and invest in one of Logitech's Harmony remotes. Such a remote will give you far more control over automated configurations and activities than HDMI Control can hope to.

Harmony and Xbox One

You can also preven the TV from automatically switching the receiver to its ARC associated source by setting the AV receiver's TV AUDIO SWITCHING setting within its HDMI configurations to OFF. This will prevent inopportune auto switching, but will also mean that you'd need to manually select the TV audio source onboard the receiver if ever wanting to access audio from the TV via ARC.

Ironically I’ve used harmony remotes for probably 10 years before I got this tv. Once I got the LG, I simplified my setup to be just tv, amp and Xbox. As the the tv offers the pointer mouse type control, which I couldn’t replicate on my harmony, I sold it.

So your TV's remote can do everything the Harmony remote could? I think you may have discarded the wrong remote? :)

I've an LG TV and I'd not regard its magic remote as being something that I'd want more than my Harmony remote. Even if using the TV's remote, I still uses the buttons on it as opposed to the magic pointer. The pointer is a pain to use and rather annoying.

Maybe life is simpler for you, but I've got 6 sources hooked up to my receiver. I've also got the receiver feeding a second zone via HDMI which I use the Harmony app on an iPad to access and control in that room.
