My mate is intent on getting hold of a Denen 5000 and said this is the best DVD you can get apart from an arcam.
I said he would be better of getting a Toshiba 9000 it is supposed to be a better picture and is cheaper.
can anyone give him some advice through experience.
    cheers Dave.

Simply No. It is not the best by any means, good maybe but not the best.

The 5000 is a bit dated now (replacement announced) and IMHO was/is too expensive. Don't forget it's based on a Panasonic though Denon did some tweaking and made some other changes to it.

Besided, "the best" are far more expensive and better than any of the models mentioned, e.g. Proceed PMDT, Meridian, Theta etc ...

It's a fine machine, and well worth buying if you can get it for a good price, but it was never the best, and is easily outperformed by other lower or similarly priced machines. It's nicely built too! :)

The Denon DVD-A1 will blow all that out of the water… and have a £2000+ price tag.

    To Mark B,

Avid Denon fan, waiting for the ultimate Denon DVD player. Intrigued by your mention of DVD-A1. Any further details would be greatly appreciated.
