Denon 4306/2930, Pure Direct Mode and Subwoofer

I'm using a Denon 4306 receiver with the Denon 2930 DVD player connected by Denon link to play music CD's, I've set the Pure Direct mode on the DVD player to 'All Off' and set the AMP to output Pure Direct also.

When I play CD's the subwoofer is definitely not outputting anything, despite the fact that the display on the AMP shows that output should be going to the sub and that you can change the output level to the sub (note that this is visible in Pure Direct when you change the volume and the AMP display turns back on).

If I switch back to normal stereo on the AMP then the sub outputs so its not a connection issue, is it a case that Pure Direct doesn't output to the sub despite the display on the AMP showing that the sub is being output too?

Yes, the tables on Pages 99/100 indicate that the subwoofer should be on in Pure Direct mode and the information on page 30 doesn't state when in Pure Direct tat the subwoofer is not used.

Plus even if it was the case that the subwoofer is off in Pure Direct, then why does the display on the amp show the Subwoofer as being a channel output too.

Jase has mentioned a bug in 2ch/direct mode. The sub must be set to LFE+Main (and he says speakers set to large, but it doesn't make any diff to me).

Under setup -> Advanced Playback -> 2ch/direct

Set to Custom and Sub to LFE+Main regardless of speaker settings.

Brilliant, that worked for me, the sub is now outputting in Pure Direct mode.

If nothing else its made me realize how unmusical my KEF PSW 2000 sub is, think I'll reverse the setting until I get my SVS!
