Morning all I have just been given :smashin: the software upgrade key for my 3808 receiver.

What changes and benefits can I expect from this in terms of performance?

Is it easy to install? Will it reset all the functions on the receiver? Or do I just install the new firmware via the internet and rerun Audyssey a few times and off we go?

I carried out the firmware upgarde on 2500BT no problem I am a bit more sceptical about the receiver as it all works a treat and sound fantastic at the moment.

Maybe I am just scared of change and it all going up in smoke?

    I would appreciate your feedback.

read a few reports that it makes a noticable improvement. would imagine the worst that can happen is you have to run audyssey again when you are done. not much risk in at least upgrading and see if you like the improvements, can always switch them off if you don't

I upgraded mine lasts week, got the upgrade for £65, it was quite easy to upgrade you just need a few details mac address, serial number, upgrade ID number, to remember a few of them.

The upgrade took about 30 mins or so, and when finished all the original setting remained.

Make sure you run the auto room setup function to get the use of the new functions, I also downloaded the new manual in PDF format which shows the updates.

The sound now seems to be much clearer and rich. The dynamic Room Eq is very good for late night listening (although i mainly have this turned off or set to day).

There are a few other GUI changes and access to the audio setup via the remote "para" button does not take you to the audio setup anymore, you have to gain access to this menu via the "menu" setup GUI.

I have not used the HDMI control as my pioneer plasma does not support this (well i dont think it does?).

Just for interest I have just Bi-amped my front speakers using the spare back ports, and this also made a great improvement.

Overall a worthly upgrade for only £65.

    Hope this helps.

Comes in the form of a glorified scratch card. Seems a lot of money to spend on a scratch card but you have to remember what its function is! :D

My scratch card came today, downloading now. I only just ran the set up a week or two back, so the dog and the wife will have to sit through that again!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, do you need to be connected to the internet to apply the update, I dont have an internet connection at the moment, so dont want to order if I can't apply.

Yes mate you need the internet. You could take your amp to a friends. Or try a Denon retailer to see if they would do the update in store?

So any further views on whether this is worth it? £65-75 for a vague "improvement in audyssey eq" seems quite steep!

So is the upgrade a matter of bunging it on an USB stick once downloaded from the Denon vaults?:hiya:

No, you buy a scratch card voucher and use this on a website along with you AVR's MAC address / serial thing and then this enables the firmware download when you next go online to check for updates directly.
