Hi, for some reason when i have only ONE surround back speaker, it will not let me select PLIIx CINEMA for the decoding of the surround back channel.

If i force the reciever to have TWO surround back speakers, it works fine and gives me the option for cinema, or music.

Any ideas as to why this is the case?

    Thanks in advance.
    Ian.

PLIIx is a DSP format to work on 7.1 systems only. All receivers/processors with DPLIIx will only let it be activated on a system setup with the 2 surround back speakers.

That doesn't quite explain why it lets me use PLIIx MUSIC though my friend...

PLIIx will work with 6.1 or 7.1. Are you able to select the PLIIx Game option (if the source is 2ch)? Also check that the AFDM is set to OFF just in case this has something to do with it.

I am able to select game music or cinema for analogue inputs, but when with DD or DTS tracks, it only lets the surround back channel be Music. unless i force the amp into thinking i have TWO Surround back speakers rather then just the one i have.

Strange one. It should work. Only thing further I can suggest is to try a system reset just in case it's a glitch. Bear in mind this will restore everything to the factory defaults so you'll have redo all the setup again.

Yep, done a full system reset (By resetting the microprocessor holding Pure direct and direct button while switching the main power switch on.)

Re-did auto speaker set-up and still can't select PL2 Game or Cinema for the surround back channel whilst watching DD or DTS sources.

    very random indeed.

Anyone know of a contact at Denon to get in touch with about this?

Could ask for Keith Prady if he still works there. He was one of their Technical guys.

Well, i've sorted it, well, in a roundabout way.

It turns out that if you use the Auto Set-up feature, then the amp tries to determine which is the best mode (Cinema, Music, game) to use for the single SB channel, therefore removes the two others that are available. It's too clever for it's own good.

So, what i'd suggest to anyone who has this problem, would be to run the auto setup, grab a sheet of paper and a pen, write down all the settings it comes up with for delay, frequency etc, then do a hard reset on the machine, then enter all the figures required in manually.
