Denon still need to work on their styling - that is one seriously ugly receiver...

    P.S. The links don't work.

As exaserbated by them not providing it in a Gold finish anymore, which is what I loved about Denon amps in the first place.

Looks like the old Sony 930/940, with the front down.

If there's no gold, then i wont be upgradeing just yet.....but it looks like when the time comes it would have to be black.

Well I rather like the look of it. It's a nice change from the current crop where you can't tell one from another!

I think I'm right in saying that they don't get the Gold at all in the US on any Denon models which is probably why the pictures are of black and silver only. Presumably, if and when this is released over here it will be available in the Gold finish,

There's only 1 thing uglier than a Denon receiver and that's a gold Denon receiver...

Well IMO the champagne gold denon equipment is very good looking, much preferable to dull, dull, black, and they go very nicely with all the light maple furniture everyone seems to be buying from Ikea etc.. nowadays (including me).

But its just IMO! :D ;)

Any news on the upgrade to the 5803? Will it be done to existing amps or does one have to buy a new amp?

I like the look of it but I would prefer a gold finish. I think it will be quite a bit more than $1,200 (£652.00) when it's released over here, and what happened to the 3804?

Looks like a cross-bread between Yamaha (case), Marantz (the two knobs l&r) and a 70s radio alarm clock (display) ...

I have enjoyed my denon avr 3801 for a long time, it is an excellent receiver and i have a denon dvd 2900. Basically i am a denon fan and was looking forward to their next 380? receiver.

I hate the looks of avr 3805 and rest assured i will not be upgrading to a denon receiver. I will try the Marantz or pioneer.

When will the 05 be shipping in the UK, I was told my the local icelandic denon dealer that they will get one the next weeks?

10watts of extra power, I-link, auto calibration and dp2x... maybe I´ll uppgrade if it starts shipping soon and in gold.

Yes - I'd consider it if it were shipped in gold.

    If not it's a definite no-no.

I like the silver a lot better than the gold. The styling is improving but it is still miles behind the 2011/AX5 which I love.

Black is timeless, Silver and Gold fads will come and go, but black will never go out of date.

" The company also offers an optional microphone for the auto set- up calibration ".

Reading the information @ www.area-dvd.de it seems that Denon are supplying an Audio-Technica microphone with German market 3805.
Will Haydon Labs be doing so in U.K. ?

Having got over the uglyness and actually read the spec it looks like Pioneer's advantage is gone. That is one very well featured receiver.

Actually, I think that the colour and looks of a receiver are very important.

If one establishes that one enjoys a particular "house-sound" or "house-features" such as Denon's smootheness or its Denon Link, Pioneer's balance or its MCACC, Yamaha's upfront sound or its DSP fields etc. then style, colour, user friendliness, spouse-approval become more important.

I am the sort of guy who, after casual listening in a shop, chose a second-hand MD player (DMD-2000AL) just because it was a Denon, came in gold and my GF said it would look cool perched on the shelf above my amp.

I for one, wouldn't particularly enjoy paying 15 quid for a plastic beaker filled with champers.

    Cheers.
