Does anyone know if this model is, or will be, available in gold finish. just been on Denon website and it would appear that THE CLASSIC GOLD FINISH HAS BEEN DUMPED! Having just bought a Denon 2900 DVD, which i had to wait for 'cos gold finish is like rockin horse s**t, to match my current gold 2802 receiver I am not happy. I had planned to upgrade to the 3805 later this year. it seems i might as well have gone for silver which broadens the choice for amps from other manufacturers with the added bonus of THX, (Pioneer anyone)

If anyone from Denon reads this please note: YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS STILL WANT THE GOLD FINISH!!!!!!!!! :thumbsdow

Same sort of story for me, have a gold marantz waited 2 months to get the denon 2900 in the gold (could have had the silver in 2 weeks). Was hoping denon may add a gold 3805 later. Anyone know if this is likely?

But apparently the dealers don't; or so says the dealer I bought my gold 2900 from.

As a dealer I agree with the above statement. The gold finish just looked cheap and nasty, as if the product was trying to look more expensive than it was.

Crustyloafer as a dealer i would have thought that you would want whatever sells and i thought the gold looked far less cheap than black or silver.

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Must confess, I also prefer the gold.

I also prefer the denon gold.........
i just brought another 2900 in gold....took about a week for the dealer to get.
Looks good above my gold 3803.
Think of the poor U.S consumer, up untill lately they could only get denon gear in black.......now they can get silver...........most of them would have paid extra for the gold.
Evern denon jeff on AVSforums was bosting that he had a gold 2900 when they first came out.

To be pedantic, I've actually had three gold 2900's through my sticky mitts. The first two, however, were duffers; had a problem with the SCART rgb output.

Have also got a gold 3803.

They've got the 3805 in Gold in Asia -

Check out the image from Denon Singapore's website:

    Clickety.

Guess it was a decision by Denon UK/ EU to push the new silver ones instead of gold. Denon USA also have the silver models - this is new for them, as a couple of years ago you could have bought any colour Denon you wanted in the states, as long as it was black!

FWIW - I think they should have given people the choice, I don't think gold looks classier or cheaper than silver, I just think it looks nicer. :)

I bought a 3805 a few weeks ago and love the receiver and the silver finish but I need a compatable Denon DVD player (with Denon Ilink) and the cheapest one available is the A11 @ £1,600 but only available in Gold !

I sent an e-mail to Denon Customer support expressing my concern. They replied saying that Denon UK has no plans to produce the A11 in silver or any immediate plan to produce the 2900 with ilink.

So what is the point of 3805 having an ilink ?

    Bad marketing

    Paul,

Denon will be incorporating the Dlink (iLink is the (Sony-invented) consumer name for IEEE 1394, also known as firewire) in many of its new line of players rolling out this summer and autumn.

For the first time, it will be available on mid-market players as well. This will include the replacement for the 2900, though the present model cannot be upgraded with Dlink. Prices (supposedly) will be better as well - due to lower costs of production from their new plant in China.

The 3805 is the first in the new range of amps/receivers to be launched that incorporate the 3rd edition of the Denon Link (which can pass/accept SACD & DVD-Audio) to go hand-in-hand with the new players. It's just been launched earlier than the other amp models. As you say, at the moment, the only player available with DL3 is the A11. If you're looking for a more reasonably-priced model, and you can wait, then do.

    HTH :)

Thankyou for that information, its certainly put my mind at rest, how come Denon UK couldn't reasure me in the same way?

The best they could offer was to keep an eye on the US website, as they launch all new products in the US first.

Hayden Labs have been criticised by many in this forum and elsewhere for being incommunicative, for a long time now.

Guess the message still hasn't sunk in yet!

To be fair, though, I do understand their not wanting to give out any information before launch of new products, and they're not the only company that won't tell you about new arrivals, in case that damages sales of their present models.

    Oh well.....;)

I also noticed that in What Hifi? the review of the A11 a few months ago featured what appeared to be a silver model, I also mentioned this to Denon in an e-mail, as yet they have not responded.

I assumed that it was the lighting but if you look at the Arcam reciever on the opposite page they are the same colour.

This is very confusing, I should perhaps e-mail What HIfi and see what they say.

It probably won't matter, even if it was silver it was obviously a special as I have already been told by Denon that I will be unable to buy one in the UK.

FWIW I have always boycotted gold/champagne products (with one exception) as I felt that it encouraged one make system building for aethetics sake- one product might have been great but I wasn't going to buy the other one unless it was any good. If that product was champagne it then sat at odds with the rest of my kit. For every loyal gold buyer who's a bit disgruntled, there is at least one who is considering Denon products for the first time now they match the rest of their stuff.

The exception was a Marantz SR7300- I was offered it at a price I couldn't refuse. Its gone now though.

    Not anymore! Now it's:

    gold=Asia (not just Japan)
black= North America (not just USA)
    silver = Everywhere

I still like black the best. Silver comes second. Gold looks cheesy.

Yes, after much pestering I now have the official word.

A replacment for the 2900 that will include 3rd generation Dlink will be available in the UK within the next 3 months.

The 2200 will not have Dlink as its natural partner (replacment for the 2803)
2805 will not include a Dlink connection.
