    Hey there,

Ive recently changed my plans on using the preouts on a Yamaha AX750 to a Cambridge Audio Azur 640a - im going to go for a one box solution.

I like the look of the Denon 3805 - can anyone tell me if the stereo performance would come close to that of the 640? I'll be using the 640 cd player through the denon if all goes to plan, not through a dvd player.

Any help would be appreciated :)

You'd have the option of either using the DAC's in the Denon (Pure Direct mode offers the best performance if you feed it a digital signal) or the DAC's in your CD player. The Denon has 100% analogue bypass with subwoofer output that can be switched on or off.:)

Personally I think the Denon is rather good for Stereo. Others may think not. Not heard the Cambridge Audio amp though.

Anyone know where the cheapest/best place to buy from online is?

Denon is a great machine but if you want musicality go for Marantz.

Marantz 7400 (2805 rival) is more musical than a Denon 3805, or try a 8400.
Heard them both a few days ago.

Or the new 7500 or 8500.

Depending on how much you're willing to spend, the Arcam AVR300 is probably one of the best receivers for stereo. I have one :), but I didn't buy it for this purpose alone, it's also terrific in surround.
BUT ... ... I don't think it's that much better than the Denon to justify the huge price difference. I've seen the 3805 for around £799 (that was a few weeks ago), and the AVR300 can't be had less than it's retail price of £1299.
£500 price diff ... ... get the Denon mate :)
