I'm thinking of upgrading my trust worthy Yamaha 795a amp. Its given us many hours of enjoyment but due to getting a plasma I'm now looking to "simplify" the setup and go for an amp with Component inputs/output.

Do people recommend the 3803? - does anyone know of a replacement for the 3803 on the horizon?

I'm not too bothered about going to 6.1 sound unless I can find an additional discrete couple of speakers but seeing as this seems to be the way the films are going its probably worth while that i do this now as I tend to keep the amp for a fair amount of time.

    Thanks

    James

I'd certainately recommend the 3803, but also I'd suggest you have a long hard look at Yamaha's new RXV1400RDS, as it looks very promising indeed.

It has all the video upconversion features you speak of, aswell as THX Select certification (Amongst the first yamahas for THX Certification) and a ton of other useful features.

The 1604 is available so the 3804 can't be that far away (redundancy seems to be getting faster for amps) - I was all set to go for the 3803 myself but there's a new kid on the block that looks to be worth a look - Yamaha's RXV1400, which I've booked a demo for tomorrow. There's a thread I started a bit further down the board where there seem to be some positive views

I'll be interested too as a 1055 owner, I reckon this is the most under-rated reciever out there. Try a good CD transport using the onboard DACS.

Like to know what you think about in comparison with the 3803 (I was underwhelmed but impressed with the features.).

Very pleased with my 3803 and just released it in silver I hear so cannot be phasing it out too soon?

Or does the '03' bit refer to the year? ie the 3804 for 2004 is due out?
    Hmmmm;)

I'm sure the 3804 will be released but it could be some time. They seem to release new versions every 8 months or so. I wouldn't buy the 3804 when it comes out either because that will be out of date pretty soon as well :D Wait for the 3805. That won't be superceeded until 2005 :D

Personnally I would look for the functionality you want and the performance you want and just buy. I'm over the moon with my 3803.
