I currently have a 3803, I am just wondering if the upgrade to the 3805 is worth it?

My current kit does not demand it, until I go for a new DVD player / Plasma. But what about sound, video quality, functionality etc.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated..

    Thanks.

    Yes.

The auto set-up, the video upconversion, the DACs, the sound - and maybe even the remote - are a step up. Even stereo sounds better.

Probably best to wait until you get a new DVD player, and then see what is around at that time. If you want to stick to a Denon amp, then buy a matching DVD player with Denon-link.

No. Unless you get a very good trade in deal on your 3803 (very unusual over here) your money would be far better spent on other areas. The EQ is the only significant benefit IMO.

    No... :nono:

Wait until you get a player with HDMI2, or whatever comes next, and than get a receiver with it too... :smashin:

Why don't you keep the 3803 as a processor and buy a power amp..?

    Not worth it,

I own neither but did some extensive home demoing of a 3805 with my mates gear and mine (quad 22 and 12L's) and with his 3803...... main improvment negating the mentioned EQ was the fact one can enter the setup menu without OSD required as in 3803.

I have recently upgraded from the 3803 to a 3805 and overall I would say that it's not really worth it.

I upgraded mine for three main reasons.

Firstly I wanted to use the Denon Link connection with the Denon 3910 that I bought at the same time which replaced a 2900.

Secondly for the auto setup which works well but can still be improved upon with a bit of tweaking.

And lastly...I wanted to go back to black.

The remote in my view is awfull and I am glad that I don't have to use it...it might not have been flash but I much preferred the old remote.

Spoonfed also makes a good point about being able to peform the setup without needing a display which is neat and also it now has a standby button.

But it does sound better though...wether this is down to the Denon Link or other internal improvements I haven't had a chance to try different setups but it is better.

    Cheers, Lee

I think I'll stick to what i've got, until I get the urge to go digital (hdmv, dvi etc.) and then I would probably have to upgrade the panny 6 - dvi is a bit lacking I've heard.

Thanks for replies guys. much appreciated.

HDMI is the same as DVI regarding image, so you dont have to worry for a while...
