Has anyone done a side by side comparison of these two models? What'e the verdict? Are their any professional reviews of these on the net yet?

The 787 is THX Select and 6.1 Ex (don't know about DTS ES?).

The 787 is also about $500 (oz) cheaper to buy.

    Any info appreciated.

    Hi,

I hesitated a lot between those two, but ended up buying the Denon. Although it's not THX, it decodes DD 6.1 Matrix. I even suspect that it has the same circuitry as the THX models... They just didn't certify it to keep the price competitive.

The Onkyo on the other hand doesn't currently handle DTS-ES. I wrote a mail to Onkyo, and they claimed an upgrade would be available later this year. (I couldn't bother)

I think soundwise, it's a question of taste. Do try to audition both machines.

Why I chose the Denon ? Because Onkyo didn't deliver on time [IMG] Am I happy ? Yes ! A lot !

Some people claim a lack of power from the Denon, but I must say I didn't notice, and I had an Onkyo before.

Buying the Denon will get you ALL the latest technology goodies...

    Good luck
