As per title -- any thoughts on what's going to sound better -- the old flagshipper Denon 3801 or the new Denon 1905?

Depends on what speakers/room you have as to wether you'll need the extra power from the 3801. After that I would say the 3801 wil have the edge on Dolby Digital and DTS material and the 1905 might just pip it for TV thanks to Pro Logic IIx. I've got a 3802 and wouldn't swap it for anything less than a 2805 if it packed up. If I were upgrading then even a 3805 wouldn't be enough of a step up IMO.
