Denon 2900 problems with Alien R1 DTS

Ive had a few problems with my R1 copy of Alien when playing in DTS, with the seemless branching to the directors cut. When it cuts back from a branched part, the film goes all jittery and then pauses. However in DD it doesn't. At first I thought it may have been the disc, but have read elsewhere about sound dropout problems on the Denon A11 (which mine has experienced) and that being something to do with the laser pick-up. Has anybody else experienced this issue or know where the problem lies?

Anyone know if installing the latest firmware effects the multiregion mod?

i.e. returns the player to region 2 only.

Ive contacted my dealer who seemed to know what I was talking about when I mentioned a firmware update, and have said they should be sending the disc(s) out shortly, so Ill let you know as and when I get them.

This has crossed my mind aswell, but I think Denon supply both R2 and a multi-region firmware update. Have a look at some of the threads concerning the A11 player.

innercry,

Yeah, if you would let me know how it works out with the 'new' firmware.
I have the same problem with Alien-Quad.
I will be contacting my dealer regarding the same issue today but they are no longer a Denon dealer so I don't know how succesful I will be.

innercry,

Have contacted dealer who is now looking into whether or not they are able to supply the firmware uprgrade as they do not have any Denon support whatsoever.

Not looking good at the moment but I will wait to hear back from them.:(

Should it turn out that I am unable to get the firmware sent and as returning it to Denon would set the player back to Region 2 would you be willing to send me the disc(s) to flash onto my machine? (would return after use). Most appreciated if possible.

eatstatic,

Ive just had another reply from the dealer who supplied me the player and he has just said that Denon havent sent them anything to specifically solve this issue, although when on the phone to them they said that they had sent firmware updates out that week! So Im going to press them again about it and see what they come up with.

Ill post my findings here.

innercry,

Cheers for the response.
Had no feedback from my dealer as yet but as previously mentioned, it dosn't look too good.

Hope you have better luck.

Wait to hear what you come up with.

Zor,

How's it going?
Didn't you buy your player from the same distributor as myself?
Have you contacted them to ask if they can get the firmware update?

Also I don't know if any of you have the region 2 version of Planet Of the Apes (Tim Burton) but this disc also has the same effect/problem when using the dts soundtrack with my player.

My dealer has said that the Firmware Update that they have for this player is supposed to cure a "small RGB discrepency", and they have no idea if it will resolve the DTS issue. They have said they will send this out to me though, so as soon as I know, you guys will find it here!

Yes I am sure we used the same dealer and there is no love lost between them & HL. Last time I spoke to them they were not expecting any more support.

Keep us posted how you get on.

Thanks ghostdog

Found that site a few days ago, but their server seems to be down.

Cheers

Site working for me, but it doesn't state if the update will leave your player's regional settings alone.

Multi-Region is what I need, so i'm not prepared to take the chance!!

Ive had the firmware update from the dealer and disappointingly it didnt work. Im going to try the firmware update on the audioholics website, now that I have a copy of the firmware. Will be in a few days though as I have to buy some discs!

Had to use my dialup account to access the site. I assume this firmware is for the US model......and if it does work I would be very surprised if it is multi-region.

Let us know how you get on.

Been away for last weekend/begining of the week so just thought I would catch up.

Well as I thought from the dealer, dosn't look as though they will be able to help out. Contacted them yesterday.

As for downloading the firmware from audioholics I think I will give it a miss for now as I just don't want to risk any possible messy scenarios. With Gizmo on that one, would be mighty un-chuffed it messed with the multi-region coding.

Innercry,

If you do actaully give it a go let us know how you get on but I don't think I would recomend it myself for now.

On a lighter note I have been speeking to Denon regarding my circumstance who at the moment seem rather sympathetic due to dealer situation and all that (also mentioned multi-region problem) as to if it helps me out will have to wait and see.
They did say that they are at the moment lab-testing the firmware update (for region 2) and that they will contact me during the next week or so to let me know how things work out, but at the moment it hasn't been passed for a release.
So reading between the lines if they manage to release a firmware upgrade in the near future it can't be too long before a 'third party' firmware upgrade comes along can it?

Quick update.

Denon got in touch this morining to advise myself that they have a firmware upgrade to reslove the Alien Quad freezing issue
Not only that but that it will also leave the Multi-region capability intact :smashin: (will have to wait and see though).

Firmware should arrive during the course of this week and subject to time constraints will upload and test upon receipt.

The firmware is to resolve the region 2 Alien Quad but I can only assume that this will resolve the region 1 problem as well. Have both available to test so will give it a go when possible.

Had thought this was going to be a bit of downer but Denon do seem to have been quite helpful. Lets hope that it works. :lease:

Looking forward to hearing the outcome on this matter eatstatic. I haven't purchased Alien Quad Boxset because of this known problem, hopefully this disc will sort everything out

Been following this thread a while and I am very happy that a fix seems to be on it's way. I'd be happy to try the firmware out if anybody would mail it to me as I have both Reg 1 and Reg 2 Alien Q boxsets aswell.

Firmware has arrived
Pretty quick, wasn't expecting it so early, nice one blokes at Denon.

So now for the crunch....to begin the testing  .
Hope it does what it says on the tin.

Just got in so will do some small tests tonight and get back to it tomorrow.
