I own a denon 2900 dvd player. when I play dvd movies on it it seem to play them in graphics mode mostly or video mode and very rarely film mode, why is this? Has the sil504 progressive chip got some kind of bug?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Would have thought 2:2 Pulldown is used for Pal Film based material to be honest, as that's what my video processor does when it detects film.

Mode 1 on the 2900 should be ok. Are you watching standard DVD movies or stuff like TV series etc??

matrix, lord of the rings 'g' mode. I got 'f' mode on ntsc disc of Doom.

Something wrong? I have read that 'f' mode is for ntsc 3:2 and 'g' mode is for pal 2:2? doesn't make sense!

Done a bit of digging about and it seems on the 2900 that "G" mode does appear to indicate PAL 2:2 progressive sources with "F" for NTSC 3:2 progressive and "V" for PAL/NTSC interlaced sources. Seems it's Denon's way of doing things so nothing appears wrong with your unit.
