    Hey there,

I was all set to order the Denon 3805, the only thing holding me back is the size of the room its going to be used in - its approx 3m by 8m.

Is the 3805 overkill for this size of room (im unlikely to be turning it up to the max), and would I be better of going for the 2805?

Seems that the 3 component ins etc are the same which are absolutely essential for me!

my room is about the same as yours and I wouldnt say overkill, my sub may be yes it is a velodyne cht-15. The 3805 is well worth it's price in features and it sounds so nice with music and movies. I dont know what the major differences are between the too but i wouldnt say it is too powerfull for small rooms.

    Thanks for your opinion!

To be honest, I would buy a 2805 today, the only problem is I love the 3805 remote so much!!

See the thing about the 3805 is it has that wonderfull autosetup feature where you can turn it on place the microphone in the listening position and tell it to set everything up for you. Which works superbly on the 2805. So you shouldnt have any problems inless you cranks the volume up higher than you ought to. tbh whichever one you get will be amazing!!!
    Lucky son of a...... :)

My room's only 2.5m x 3.5m, I have a 3802 at the moment and am considering changing to the 3805. It doesn't seem overkill even in this room :D

I'm also in a quandry as to which to get. I haven't demo'd either yet and I'm currently just looking at the specs. I like the microphone set up as I've no idea how to do it properly. I also like the audio delay configurable for individual inputs as I plan to get a plasma and may need to add all sorts of video processing in to get a half decent picture from my cable box via TiVo. Both the 2805 and the 3805 have these features and I'm trying to justify the extra £200 for the 3805, especially as I have to try to convince my husband that it's worth it (it's his money I'm spending).

I've read that some people can't tell much difference in the sound quality between the two amps, and that will probably apply to me as I can't spot the difference between similar amps (but I do like a good quality powerful sound). I'm looking at other differences in features to try to justify the 3805. One thing I've noticed is that the 2805 doesn't seem to have RDS and RadioText in it's spec, whereas the 3805 does. Why would Denon not include it in the 2805, especially as I've seen it in much lower end Denon models?

Actually, I've just seen another picture of a 2805 and this one has the RDS logo, so maybe the spec I saw was an old one.

Anyway, I've just done some creative accounting on my finances and I can stretch to the 3805. So I shall demo one soon.

I demoed both. The 3805 is miles better than the 2805. Much better separation and clarity. You can tell on complex bits of music.

The setup stuff and remote is no reason to buy one rather than the other.

Is your mind set on a Denon as I have just replaced my 3801 with a Yamaha RX-V2400 and it sounds fantastic. I tried the 3805 but the 2400 sounded better with movies. Didn't try with music cus I use a Cyrus 8 for that. + you can get the Yamaha for £680 online.

Yeah I want either of the two Denons.

My mind is now wavering towards the 2805 - £250 cheaper. The main thing about the 3805 which appealed to me was the remote, but its got a bit of bad press about being user unfriendly and hard on the batteries, so I guess thats not much of an issue!

unlight what speakers are you considering
,satelightes, standmounts or floorstanders as that also has an effect on sound levels , my room is smallish 3.5 x 4mm i sold my cdm1nts and used smaller 600s3 as tempery fronts not to bad for movies, but if using say denons 3802 tuner in 2 channel had to really crank the volume up by another 10db.

i am now using dyn floorstanders with movies i get quite a bit more OOMPH at reasonable volume levels (23db) your room is quite a bit larger than mine though.

You should also check the Pioneer VX5Ai which is due to be released next month. It's auto setup features are suppose to be better than the Denon's.

    Cheers.
