Hey there, I just cancelled my order on the AX750 as Ive just seen the Denon 2805, and am wondering which would be better for my system -

I'll be using the preouts on the reciever to go to my Cambridge Audio Azur 640 amp for stereo music, so obviously need an amp with this feature!

Denon has 3 component ins and one out, the yamaha 2 ins and one out..

    Speakers are -

    KEF Q4 fronts
    KEF Q3 rears
    KEF Q6c centre
    PSW2500 subwoofer.

Any help would be much appreciated - can get the 750 for £370, and the Denon for £570...

    Thanks guys!

Don't discount the Marantz SR7400 either :) It can be had for just under £500 as well, down from a whopping £700 rrp :D

So you prefer the look of the new Yamaha amps to the Marantz ones......I see..... ;)

The 2805 and 750 are both class amps, choosing between the two would be difficult. If you are using it only for movies, then the Yammy is probably a better buy (the extra cost of the Denon probably doesn't match the increase in performance), if you want to spin a few CD's as well, then the Denon could be worth the extra :).

The Marantz SR7400 should beat them both for music, and be a match for both on the movie front, but then, you don't like the look of them :p :) :D

Yeah I dont know why I dont like the Marantz, the Yamaha isnt particulary appealing either, but I can make do :)

Music will be handled by the Azur stereo amp hooked up via the preouts, so I wont have to worry about its music abilities :)

With the 640A in mind- it will sound more like the Yamaha tonally than the Denon. This is important in terms of getting the soundfield right when they are running together.

Thats great - thanks for the info mate!

You reckon the setup will sound good then when its all in place, or will it sound a little dodgy?

Bear in mind you can get the THX Yamaha RX-V1400 for £650....

That's where my money would (and did) go. I had a Marantz SR7200 before that and the Yamaha is surprisingly good in 2-channel mode. It murders the Marantz for AV - I wasn't expecting such a leap to be honest.

The rxv1400 is a very good amp too. I'd say the SR7400 is a big improvement over the SR7200 imho, a two generation gap 'should' always sound better, just like the Denon 3805 is a step up from the 3803 (and that was just a one gen gap).

To be honest, you almost can't go wrong with any of the current Amps in most price ranges, fantastic quality and ability is available to all now, and it is getting more and more difficult to recommend one single amplifier (unless you are an Arcam junkie ;) :D  )

Yeah, I dont really want to push my budget up to £650 really.

Think I'll probably go with the Yamaha, seems like a bargain for £370 :)
