My Denon 2800 MkII is currently still sitting in its box, and will be staying that way until I can get hold of PAL prog/ multiregion firmware.

A german web site that has hosted the PAL prog firmware for the 2800 still has a message saying

"More difficulties with the new files for the mk2 than expected !! Release in Sept.2002"

This worries me somewhat. Does anyone know if this is still being worked on?

Also, does anyone know if there is any plain multi-region firmware for this player to tide me over..........

Cheers,

Richard

I have the latest firmware as of today (06/11/03) mail me and I can send you copy if you like

Richard & Dimmy,

I had a quick question for you regarding the adventures with the Firmware upgrade from Hayden's.

I got a projector at the weekend and was annoyed that the PAL output from the player was NTSC only.

Looks great on region one disks but I'm using a scart with svideo signals for the PAL disks. Having spent the entire weekend looking at forums and reading your extensive work I've decided to contact you both with to hopes to learning from your wide experiences.

In your experience are there any multi region-ed NTSC & PAL progressive scan firmware upgrades that you would be prepared to flash to you own players?

Regards,

JJ

I'm afraid I never found a multi-region + PAL/NTSC prog scan firmware I was completely happy with. When Denon released an updated (non multi-region) firmware upgrade that gave excellent PAL progressive output, I did the update then sold my player as a PAL prog player.

I now have a Pioneer 668AV and couldn't be happier!

Sorry it probably isn't the news you were hoping for.......

Thanks for your reply. Not the news I was hoping for but I'll keep a looking anyhow. I've been lucky with my player. It's screwed up a few times with picture lock and sound drop out etc. I lose the display on the player every now and then but I've always considered it to be a software or user error, until I started reading the forum sites. Glad to hear that your enjoying the Pioneer.

JJ :)

I've spoken with my dealer who in turn has contacted their Denon rep who has reported that he can supply a MR - PAL & NTSC progressive scan firmware.

I'm now waiting to hear back from the dealer to say that they have it. They are also going to upgrade it for me.

My current firmware is MR and NTSC progressive.

DAV 62 00
ESS 60 98

I've not had many issues with my player. Occasional picture lock, green pixel noise, sound / pause drop out when changing chapters, knocking sound spinning up from top menu to main title and the display remaining blank on start up resulting in me having to switch the mains off.

JJ :)

I must be incredibly luckly - I bought a 2nd hand Mk1 2800 and it does NTSC and PAL prog scan and is multiregion. In over a year of ownership I have had one sound drop out but it is otherwise perfect.

That's interesting DJ. Could you share some details with us? I wonder if your firmware is compatible with the MKII version. Can you tell us what the DVA and ESS is? Did you get your player from a dealer - second hand? If so who?

Thanks,

JJ

Let me know how to find out the firmware version and I'll have a look this evening. I bought 2nd hand from an individual and I am pretty certain that he purchased from a dealer with this firmware (rather than having updated it himself).

EDIT - found out how

DAV 1-61
ESS 2248

Hope that helps!

Hey all
I have an interesting problem. I am in the states, and purchased a 2800 MKII through a company in the states. For some reason i was sent a region 2 dvd player (should have recieved a region 1) Contacted denon, because i knew it was a firmware diffrerence, thinking maybe they would make it easy on me and just upgrade it. NOPE, they tell me to contact the distributor for an exchange (i waited a month to get it to begin with.. I wasn't to happy about shipping it back there). Anyway i contacted the distributor and he was suprised that i got tossed around like that by denon because they are usually helpful. He agreed it was just a firmware difference, and there was a denon service deptartment pretty close by to me ( could drive there if i wanted, or save a bundle on shipping) he told me he would get a hold of them and see if we can set something up to change it over.

Well he never got back to me. I never heard anything from denon. I can never get in contact with them on the phone either.

So i went hunting for stuff online. I couldnt find region 1 only firmware stuff, but i found the muli region upgrade. I do it, and i am a happy camper for about a week.

Then i rent a movie, a newer one (i'm not completly sure which, but it doesnt matter.) and the dvd player wont read it. The problem only gets worse, because there are more movies now that arent playing. Great. i spent all this money on a dvd player that doesnt play any dvd's.

Anyone had better luck with denon? or any other suggestions? I am not concerned with making this a multi region dvd player, but i am posting here because this seems to be the only place where people know what they are talking about.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tim,

I visited my local dealer and enquired about the area rep updated firmware only to be told that they are still waiting. There are plenty of links to firmware upgrades but as you have discovered not all are perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I can confirm that my MKII is region free and NTSC Progressive. Touch wood has continued to work very well bar a few minor glitches. It works with all the new films that I buy or rent.

My current firmware is MR and NTSC progressive.

DAV 62 00
ESS 60 98

I hope that you can find an upgrade / downgrade version to match the DAV & ESS.

Good luck,

JJ :)

Hi
I am looking for a firmware for my Denon2800mk2. Was the PAL-Progressive an option or a standard for this dvd player? Mine was bought probably a few weeks ago. It doesn't read nothing except for Region2 but in a Video SetUp I have a Progressive/Interlaced options. I can also choose Multisync/NTSC/PAL system. Do I need this firmware upgrade?
The problem that I have with this player is unablity to connect it to Infocus 4800 projector with a usage of component interface.
Can you advise?
Can you send me this firmware with info what to do?
Thanks

anyone know where I can get the Denon 2800 (not MK2) firmware from?

I have a Denon 2800mk2 fully patched up from the shop, bought it last year to go with my Denon 3802 amp. Have just bought a Toshiba RD-XS32 DVD recorder. Could anyone tell me what the current secondhand value of my Denon would be now please, it plays everything including MP3's and has honestly not played anything over 48 hours of DVD's.
Does anyone think it would be best to just keep the Denon and use it as a stand alone player bearing in mind the Tosh has Pal progressive?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Arty1 ;)
