With sooooo much negative comments about the Denon 2800 I would like to start a thread thats positive about the 2800 I would not swap it for all of the tea in China... heck it was made there! :rolleys:my Sony 10ht is a far better projector because of this player I have borrowed several friends dvd players and compared the difference that this player video puts out makes it a steal at its price bracket.. yes I feel for those with problems but if your lucky enough like me thats found a "GOOD" unit you will find it very hard to justify a new player to replace it in the near future and would require more than just a "SI504" chip to entice me to change
    just my thoughts
    cheers Laurie;)

It'll be lovely to read of all these perfect DVD-2800s whilst I reach my fourth week without a DVD player....

For those looking to pick up bargain 2800s when the MkII is out then any indicators as to how you distinguish a 'good' one would be very useful and some indication of how many good:bad there are.

Wishing I was a member of the club!

    Regards,
    Ian Guinan

    Hey sign me up,
I'm very happy with my 2800, I sympathise with the users with problems though.
I've had a couple of "freezers", but otherwise it is superb. One thing for sure the technical problems experienced by many are giving the 2800 a bad reputation. It has to be one of the most talked about players ever.
    I love mine.

Add me to the list too, I absolutely love my 2800.

Mine does freeze during the kung-fu scene in 'the matrix' but I don't have any artifacts, and I seem to remember that this disc was slated when it was released because of the problems it caused to lots of players. Personally, I can't say I have heard of a player that can play every dvd flawlessly.

But I can say I have yet to see a player that performs better with dvd or cd at a sensible price ( < £2000).

I to am completely happy with my Denon 2800, i've had mine six months now and have had no probs at all. I've just posted a similar post regarding TV's as a great number of people seem to have problems with their TV's, but once again i have a perfect picture with my Philips PW329616c I guess am just one of the lucky ones.
It's nice to see a post about how happy people are with their A/V set ups. I'm new to this forum and I was begining to think it was all Doom and Gloom in the world of A/V.

I'm happy with my DVD-2800. I have modified it for 576p and multi-zone. I've had two DVD-2800s, the first was from one of the first batches with lots of crappy-issues and the one I have now was manufactured in July 2001.

Problems with freezing ang such usually come from heat. Try letting it have more air around it and I'm sure the problem goes away.

Also very happy with my Denon 2800.

After 3 years with my Panasonic A310 I just couldn't live with that damn layer change any more, And the 2800 is the only player I could find with a buffer layer change + NTSC/PAL prog scan.

Borrowed Matrix r2 to test the problem that other people have, and it freezes at 49"03 for about 10 seconds then resumes (my r1 Matrix plays fine). That's the only problem I've had with 150+ dvds.

    Cost me £500 + my Panny A310 :D

I've been holding myself from snapping up this player. Two factors have been stopping me...1. The release of a new improved MKII version, and 2. The Denon 3800 is to be released at the end of April which also plays DVD Audio (Which I may consider investing in as my Sony DVD only plays SACD)...and another silly thing my mate said was that the 3800 DVD is in the same product line as my 3802 receiver...(or am I wrong?)

On that note, does anyone know exactly when the 2800 mk2 is out? Or where there's a specs page for it, Denon's site is a bit pony.

the matrix plays in one 2800 but not the other !!

when a dvd player has a fault playing dvd's 99% of the time the rest have the same problem, but from what i've seen this player has a mind of it's own.
    i had 3 2800's within 5 weeks,in the end i got a full refund.

you see the denon 2800 is a load of *&^$£# :D

    What can I say?!

I probably should mention that I have the norwegian R2 of Matrix. It has never freezed with any DVDs. I have the 576p- and multiregion-hacked firmware.

Forgive me, but didn't laurie start this thread as 'positive' thoughts of the dvd2800?

Nice to see threads coming in on this player and thanks to those that stated this is a POSITIVE thread..I just wanted those that were scared off by negative reports to read of others that dont have problems......... you see I also was in the same position but unfortunately people tend to post negative threads which is a good thing by the way otherwise how are we to know the faults! would be interesting to know the ratio of faulty units V good units

    Cheers Laurie

Well add me to the list I've had mine since December, and I'm extremely happy with mine, the picture is great (Matrix is fine by the way..) but best of all is the sound, it is a class above....

One thing I do find strange, is that no body appears to have 'hacked' the 2250 firmware?

Now it should be better than the 2248 most are using?

And are there any plans for more releases, or do we think that Denon are concentrating on the Mk2??

    alpha10,
    2250 hacked, is it available?
I'm guessing the problems experienced with previous firmware have been solved with 2250, when Pal Progressive and Multi-Region is possible with 2250 that should be worthwhile.
Is 1208 known to be older than 2248 we have, or is it more up to date.
A dealer told my work colleague that 1208 is the latest "hack" to allow P-P and M-R and RGB enabled. I doubt this is so, anyone know? I haven't seen a 2250 hacked version mentioned anywhere as yet.
Wouldn't the 2800 Mk11 hack work on the original 2800 anyway, when available.

No hack for the MkII yet and still not shipping.
I should know, I'm waiting for one from Germany!

    Ian,

I was considering the possibility of getting a 2800 Mk11 or a 3800 from Mediacheckpoint in Germany ... I was under the impression that they could supply multi-region versions. Who is your supplier?

I'm waiting for Mediacheckpoint to get back to me, as when I last spoke they still did not know if a multi region solution was available for the MkII (or 3800). Would be very surprising if not though.

If I can find the &#$#@ site where someone stated that 2250 hacked version from the original 5250 does exist but the method of loading it has changed due to Denons concern of the previous hacks!!
    cheers Laurie
