Anyone experienced this?

18-months old, no accidents or any other suspicious causes. Happens on commercial and home-made DVDs. Have used a DVD lens cleaner (but can't be a dirty lens - there would be probs everywhere).

The player starts making weird noises and playback stutters/freezes approaching the outside of the disc - then player gives up altogether.

Anyone any experience of this - causes/remedies ?

It's probably more expensive to get it fixed than buy another (have bought a Pioneer DV-600 to cover - good value @ £120).

Thanks for any help...

No, but mine knocked out the HDMI connection the other day during the layer change.

Since then it has lost the connection twice, a fiddle with the socket at the back of the player sorts it, but not good news for a DVD player thats only just 2 years old.
