Denon 1906 Sky HD via optical cable problem

I have been running my Sky HD sound via a Denon 1906 using the optical output since getting HD. Last week all of a sudden I started getting no sound from HD channels, all others are fine. Following a software rebuild of the SkyHD box I get ITV HD sound back!

The engineers have just been and replaced the HD box, but the problem remains. To confuse matters further, if you change the Digital Audio Output from Dolby back to normal... I get sound back!!

Sky have now said 'not our problem' as the audio is leaving the box ok.

Anyone seen this before??

.. was pondering upgrading the receiver to one with HDMI anyway.. maybe now is the time! Any recomendations?

I had changed one of the input setting, set it back to auto and it started working again!
Bizarre that it still accepted the non hd channels though!
