Denon 1906 against Yamaha V657

Sorry I know both of these are well written about but I cant find any comparison on the two.

I am looking to upgrade my current Sony Pro-logic amp for one with a bit more grunt, it served me well for 5 years but I feel i am missing out on something far better.

Both the Yamaha and the Denon appear to be similarly specified, auto set up, OSD and a price around 250-270. But which is best!!

With HD approaching fast which of these if any is most future proof? or should i just wait a little longer? Dont know if I can though I have my heart set on spending some cash.

Any help appreciated

I have debated the same issue. That and second hand gear and I think I will be going for the 657. The 657 looks good value for money and virtually the same as a 757 minus phono input and slightly less power. :)

You should try to audition the receiver with the speaker that you are going to use it with (This is very important IMO). I had Yamaha RXV-657. It just ok for HT (not good, not bad). But for stereo, it's just won't satisfy me.
