I am planning on replacing my Marantz 5300 with either the Denon 1804 or the HK 3550 (unexpected extra income allows me to purchase a new receiver at this price range). I am mostly into audio (70%), HT (30%).

There is nothing wrong with my 5300, I am relocating it to my bedroom.

The new receiver will be paired with Acoustic Research S50 mains, AR center and AR surrounds.

Based on audio performance, which one is better, the Denon or the HK?

My immediate recommendation would be the HK. However - sounds daft - but you might want to buy another SR5300?
