the new SACD of Dire Straits- brothers in arms. The redbook CD only layer is staggering, let alone the SACD layer.

KD Lang- Ingenue

Donald Fagen- Kamakiriad

The Chesky stuff ime sounds a bit cheesy and a bit too demo-y and false and doesn't sound like your standard CDs. But whatever floats your boat :)

Cheers ,what is the The redbook CD is it on the same SACD of Dire Straits- brothers in arms

sorry...redbook means the standard CD layer. The SACD has standard CD layer, SACD stereo layer and SACD 5.1 layer :) Its called a SACD hybrid disc as it can be played on CD players and SACD players.

Sorry for any confusion

I would not use a demo disk, these can flatter almost any system and do not really give a 'real world' view. Take some discs which you know really well and maybe some where the recording quality is poor. A good system should still allow the poor recordings to sound great

Thanks rozzar a SACD of brothers in arms is on order from Amazon.co.uk and Thanks to Londondecca for the advice, have one or two not so good recording will bring along

I would describe a reference disc as one that you know extremely well.
