With Xmas around the corner I'm going to be entertaining various friends who have no real home cinema knowledge and so am bound to try and show off my system.

What scenes (not whole films) do you guys use to show off your systems? At the moment I use the Duel of Fates scene from Star Wars:TPM but would be interested in any suggestions (any region) that can top that for picture or especially sound.

    Cheers

Opening chapter of Toy Story 2 : Fantastic picture and sound

Opening of Saving Private Ryan : Surround sounds (bit heavy subject matter though)

Matrix Lobby scene was always popular.

    Apollo 13 launch scene.

Gladiator : any of the battles

The Rock CE : Excellent transfer

Shrek : Rescue of the princess from the dragon.

Phantom menace has terrible edge enhancement. The picture quality is awful.

My personal favorite just now is the opening scene and the following title scene in the Superbit version of Desperado.

Have a look at Jurassic Park - the scene sitting in the jeep when T Rex comes a looking - to show off subwoofers.

Also many scenes in Mission Impossible 2 are good sound demo pieces.

I have mentioned this before in a similar question - the opening scene of Die Hard 3 R1 (DTS) - Summer in the city song is interrupted by the explosion of the store front, and it rocks big time. Also, the spaceship crash at the beginning of Pitch Black R1(DTS) is absolutely awesome, and a small but beautiful moment is the DTS version of Independance Day where the guy shoots the can from the inside lip of the spaceship to prove that Geoff Goldblum has installed the virus into the ship ! Any of the Spinosaurus attacks in Jurassic Park 3 R1 (DTS) are pretty cool too.

    Moulin Rouge: Diamonds are...scene6
The Replacements: Friendly distractions, probably scene24 I think...or Cheerleader tryouts is quite fun...
    Dinosaur: The Eggs Journey
    Fifth Element: On a Ledge

Desperado: Customer is always right and then music scene in bar afterwards for great sound and picture..clapping around the room is always one to silence those who complain of "no sound our surrounds"

October Sky: Trying out the rockets scene. Great sound OK picture

    Toy Story 2....Shrek....etc

    Gordon,

I thought you were saving Moulon Rouge to watch with your girlfriend over xmas :)

All of the above PLUS opening scene to Tommoroow never dies is good, Diva from Fifth element, awesome. Also from FE, the scene where Gary oldman demonstates the ZF1. great rear effects.

    My Favourites!

I know it's not a film, but the DTS CD of Marvin Gaye always gets people's heads turning to see where those noises are coming from, as does the bank raid in Heat
