I'm interested to know what you use (or consider) as 'demo' discs to show off or demonstrate your system, for sound and image quality.
    (DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD or CD?)
One of my favourites for image and especially the sound is the R1 version of the Haunting with dts ES discreet 6.1.

Good Choices but you have forgotten some of my fav's:

Ronin - Cars chases through the hills
Sixth Sense - Different choice but the whole film is very subtle.
U-571 DTS - Depth Charge scene - loud enough to lose fillings
The Rock (Criterion DTS) - FANTASTIC jet flypast

All of the above, and I quite like 'Obi Wan Vs. Darth Maul' from Star Wars Ep.1. Great lightsabre sounds and 'Duel of The Fates' playing over the top... Brilliant!

The best way to get my friends' indifferent attention is to show them the 'foyer' scene from the Matrix, or the first few minutes of Blade.

Other than that, Jaws kicks ass, Jurassic Park kicks ass - especially the scenes with the T-Rex.

I do also like the DTS soundtracks from the original 'The Crow' movie, and 'The Crow: Salvation', the second sequel. Most under-rated.

How about the begining of Die Hard with a Vengence DTS - the 'Summer in the City' song sounds cool, and then when the storefront explodes - wow. Its awesome.

Final Fantasy is good too for image quality and sound and Shrek is an excellent choice too for visual/audio treats.

One of the best sequences is the DTS version of Pitch Black when the ship is crashing at the begining. That and the Diva sequence from The Fifth Element always leave me grinning to myself ! :D

    My favourite demo sections are:-

Heat- The airport scene's at the end...Well Loud Planes!!!

Antz- Most of this film is demo quality but what stands out is when they get stuck in the gum under the kid's shoe... the footsteps are a major subwoofer work out

Fight Club- The two plane's crashing into one another scared the s**t out of me

Terminator 2- The THX demo... excellent!!!

Probably used every disc above to demo at some point to friends.

I like finding moments of insperation on a soundtrack when you think yes thats brilliant. E.G. the bit in Lock stock with the golf ball flying all around the room. Or the demo on the Dolby Digital Demo disc, which uses different voices in different languages in each speaker.

But for me the best mixed movies (apart from expolosions etc) are those that make you fall into the movie and the settings without really noticing the sound. Like SEVEN. absolutely brilliant sound mix from the opening reel to the last. Just sets up the eerie depressive city perfectly.

And the best sound mixer in the business? Gary Rydstrom by far! he is a genious!

    p.s. 400th post :D

Ride of the Valkyries scene in Apocalypse Now. Its worth the price of the DVD just for that one scene.
