assuming its a recent board it will contain ddr/1/2 ram they all the same,
1. to remove old ram gently push the small plastic tabs at each end of ram socket down and away from ram.
you will see the existing ram rise up and come free of the sockets, lift clear.
2.Align new ram with center guide slot and push gently down on both top sides of ram stick till u hear click and see plastic tabs move back to previous position

And looking on Crucial Memory they say the Vostro 220/420 uses DDR2 RAM, so don't get the older DDR or newer DDR3 as they wont fit.

Im looking for a repair manual on how to upgrade the ram on this pc but this is all i can find....

Documentation

I guess you got there through a search engine?

Search engines are a good place to start, but they're appalling at finding specific information. In this case the manual for the 200 can be found by clicking the support link at the top of that page, going to the small business section and then hitting manuals and picking the 200 instead of the 220.
