Here we have a great little machine in excellent condition. As you can see it shows little signs of use.

I'm not a techno whizz but it is extremely quick due to it's OCZ Vertex 100Gb SSD, Core2Duo P9400 2.4Ghz processor and 3Gb DDR3 RAM. I bought it several months ago for my son following the upgrades. Only selling as I have now bought him an i5 machine with a dedicated graphics card.

Well built, it comes carbon wrapped using a LidStyles wrap which was sourced from the States(removable in 30 seconds if required, although it took a bit longer than that to apply!)- condition under the wrap is excellent with just a couple of marks on the lid.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate (there is a COA on bottom of machine but it is hard to make out all the numbers) with a 1280 x 800 resolution 13.3" screen, integrated graphics.

If I'm being picky there are a few very tiny black specks that are visible on light backgrounds on the display.

Also on the machine is Microsoft Office 2007.

Included is a new replacement battery (December 2013) as the original struggles to hold its charge past around 30 minutes. Also has a new genuine Dell charger.

Happy to consider sensible offers as it is no longer used........more photos available if required.

    Price and currency: 170
Delivery: Delivery cost is not included
Payment method: BT, PPG or Cash On Collection
    Location: Dorset BH22

    Hi

Am interested in this my daughter - looks reasonably close to what I'm looking for. Would be very grateful if you'd clarify a few details:-

What signs of use does it have? I'd be grateful for some close-up pics of whatever they are.

What are the specs of the RAM and the other components including, the onboard GPU?

Is the serial no. for Win 7 actually legible?
Is there a restore partition and/or disks?

Can you specify the exact specs. of the screen. These machines seem to have come with several different versions of the 1280x800 screen, TNT/WXGA etc.

Are these dead pixels? Can or have you run a pixel checker on the display?

Is there a legit. license for this? Any disks or through a license no. on the machine? Which version of Office 2007 is it?

    Which size battery is it - 3 cell/30W, 6 cell/60W?

Additionally, is this boxed with all originally supplied documentation, accessories, disks etc? Any case or similar?

Apologies for the littany of questions but am seriously interested.

    Cheers :)

    Hi, here goes.....

Signs of light use only on the trackpad - even the keys don't have any 'shiny' patches.

I have pushed a few buttons and tried to find all the info on the GPU, RAM etc. The GPU is a GMA 4500MHD 1319mb. I couldn't find the RAM but can only assume it to be either 1333 or 1600 as the Windows Performance was 5.5 (the Processor was 6.0 and SSD was 7.8!).

The serial number is not really discernible on the COA but shows as 'activated' with a serial number under properties. I don't have a disk but apparently it's relatively easy to put a recovery point on the machine?

I couldn't find much info on the display - it's an LCD2207 if that means anything? I also ran a pixel checker and, on a black background, they don't show? If you put the white arrow cursor under the speck it shows up black.....although they are miniscule and barely noticeable on all but a totally white background.

I have a disk for the MS Office. Don't know what version it is but it includes Access, Excel, Infopath, One Note, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher and Word.

The original battery is a 3 cell, the replacement is a 6 cell (sticks out a little) 11.1v 4800mAh.

The machine was bought secondhand so no documentation, although I do have a Dell box it would be packed in.

Hope that helps - if you know where to find more specific info I'd be happy to push a few more buttons!

Apologies for vagueness but I bought the machine on the basis that it was very well built and able to take some punishment from my son and that the basic spec, i.e. Processor, RAM, SSD was very good.

    Thanks for your interest.

Thanks very much for the info, Nige - much appreciated.

Can you please PM the Dell service tag so I can look up the spec details (pre upgraded components) and see if I can glean some more info.

    Cheers :)

    Hi Nige

Thanks a lot for the service tag. Have gleaned a few things and have a couple of queries arising from the original spec.
    • The shipped OS shows as XP SP3 - so is that what the OS label shows on the bottom of the laptop? Perhaps you could also clarify how the current OS (Win 7 Ultimate) is now there legitimately (btw, not insinuating anything at all - just a bit confused!)?
    • The network card looks like it's 10/100 rather than gigabyte - can you confirm the spec of the network card in the laptop?
    • What is the spec of the wireless card - G or N?
    Cheers :)

The letters on the COA are very faint so can't confirm XP.
The Windows 7 Ultimate was on it when I bought it......the guy I bought it from rebuilds computers for a living so assumed it was fine.....no offence taken.
Network adaptor showing as Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabyte Connection with Intel(R) Wifi Link 5300AGN......if that's what you're after.......

That's great - and very helpful. One last thing (I promise!) please - could you just confirm what ports are on the machine - it wasn't at all clear from the Dell service tag info, and also that the additional 6 cell battery is genuine Dell. I'm assuming the DVDRW drive is fully operational with no problems?

    Cheers :)

    No worries!
Ports are: USB, eSATA, 1394, serial port, microphone socket, earphone socket....
The DVDRW works fine with no issues.
    The battery is non-OEM - couldn't afford the £80 Dell wanted........works fine.

    Hi Nige

Thanks so much for your helpful responses and also your patience..;)

To be honest, it's not quite what I was looking for (pretty old and slow processor, v limited connectivity, unreliable SSD model). However, it may serve as some kind of stopgap but wouldn't want to pay too much for something that may not be useful or used for that long. I'll give it some thought and may come back to you with an offer.

    Thanks again

Great, thanks for putting me through all of that when, in the first post, the very reasons you have apparently discounted/rubbished the machine (processor, SSD etc), were clearly stated...... :suicide:

    Hi
Hi, thanks for the offer but it needs to be closer to asking, otherwise I will consider keeping it.

Hi, thanks for the offer but, as the asking price is £170 + P&P, it needs to be closer to that.

    Cheers.

Can I just add I had one of these as my laptop for two years and it was great. The poster who said they have limited connectivity is talking nonsense.

If a little higher is £10 more then I can be persuaded, any higher and definitely not and I'll look at others I've got my eye on. Thanks

Thanks. It is a great little machine.
I'd be happy to deal at £150, that way I may be able to clear £140 after I've posted it....

Not going to argue over a fiver. It's yours at £145 if you want it. Need to investigate a safe way to send it as RMSD will cost quite a bit I think. I'll make sure it's insured though.

    Let me know.

Probably! Is the OS 32 or 64 bit? What configuration is the RAM in, i.e. a 2 and a 1, but are both slots accessible? Some have one slot soldered in, not sure on this model. Will it have a full factory reset, i.e. HD all cleaned up prior to postage? I know you like these long drawn out question sessions, apologies...

p.s. answers will NOT be used as bartering tool :)
