I'm trying to fix my daughter's laptop, which has developed a problem. It won't boot, and gives me 8 loud beeps.
I think this is due to an LCD failure.
Anyone had this problem before and fixed it?

Seems to be an LCD failure message, Dell says hold D on power up, it should alternate colours but if nothing comes up then screen has failed.

There's also another method for hardware diagnostics listed here on Dells site.

Thanks. I've done the 'D' process to check the colours. Looks ok. Went into the BIOS diagnostics, which said to check the LCD cable.
So, one disassembly later, the cable was connected ok to the mother board. But I reseated it anyway. Booted up - still the same.
I'm thinking that the LCD cable needs replacing. But how you get it out of the screen is not obvious.

Result! After disassembly I found the cable not seated correctly into the panel
