I've got a Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I recently got given a Western Digital Mybook 1TB usb/firewire hard drive and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to use the built in firewire card. When plugging in the drive, nothing happens. I figured the problem is with the firewire card, as the MyBook has been working fine on Firewire for the previous owner of the drive. I replaced the firewire card with a "Link It" card which has two firewire 400 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. I've put this into the computer today and Windows 7 went out and fetched the drivers and I'm currently typing using the USB port on this card. Device manager also shows the firewire card as 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller, so I know the computer can see this card.

How can I get the drive to work? I've been told the Firewire connection is faster for moving files to/from the drive which is essential because I'm a video editor.

Thank you so much!
