I'm new to the Arcam forums so be nice.
Just bought a DV79, and i absolutley love it. But a few settings are perplexing me.
There is a section in the menu called delays, now i get that the pal/ntsc delay is for lip sync, but the front centre and rear delays, are these for video also? My amp does this so do i need to bother with them? the same with trim, my amp sets all this from the mcacc do i need to change these?
Also whats the most up to date firmware? how do i check which i'm running?
Last question i promise. when i start the player up it comes up with "ps output" is this telling me its set to progressive or asking me i want to change it to progressive.

    Thanks

PS Output when you start up means that progressive is switched ON.

    Hi

If you are feeding your AV amp with a digital feed from the DV79 then the delay and level settings on the 79 will have no effect. This will allow you to decode Dolby Digital and DTS. In this case the AV amp is doing the processing.

If you feed your AV amp with 6 analogue cables (5.1) then the delay and level settings on the DV79 come into play as the DV79 is doing the processing. Normally you would only use this method if you are playing DVD-A discs as AV amps can not decode these.

    philthyanimal,

To check the DV79 latest firmware :
    1. Press 'Setup'
    2. Press '4792'
    3. Select 'Version' and press 'Ok'

(the current version for your DV79 should be: V5.17.0

Please check the sticky posted by Crustyloafer at the start of this Arcam forum for more details as to what each firmware update fixes . www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203055
