Had my lounge decorated and the rather careless decorators broke my PW6 whilst taking it off the wall. The reason I'm glad??? There are two of them......

    1. They agreed to compensate me with the full purchase amount I paid, which has no resemblance to the prices now (in my favour).

    2. Even though they have not paid up yet (insurance agreement received though) I went out and bought myself a new PW7 and I'll still have another £1200 left for some more updating. Upon switching the PW7 on for the first time, the realisation hit me that there had been something not quite right with the PW6 I had been using for just over a year, even though it had been calibrated twice. I had considered the PW6 to have an excellent picture, but comparing it to the PW7 is like night and day. I must say with a big smile on my face that the PW7 is superb :D .

I currently have it connected to an iscan HD+ through the VGA port. I have the PW7 set to Cinema to keep contrast down. The Iscan is set to output at 720p at 60hertz. Do I have these settings correct and are there any other settings I should make sure I have on the Iscan, ie low numbers for contrast, brightness so I do not ruin the effect of setting cinema on the Panny?

If you are connecting to the VGA port, you can do 720p at 50Hz for PAL, and 60Hz for NTSC. So lock your 50Hz to 50Hz, or perhaps 75Hz if 50 gives you grief, I have known it. This will avoid the infamous FRC judder.

Many thanks. At 50Hz, the picture is excellent, but only takes up about half the screen, and I can't get it to move!!! At 60Hz, the screen is filled, but I get that feeling that there are bits being hidden, as though I need to shrink it a little. I want to get it calibrated (ISF this time) but want to leave it a little while to settle first.

Try 50-75Hz then, being a multiple of 25, this works too. That's what I referred to above, sometimes it makes a difference what order things are turned on in, sometimes you can get 50Hz to work like that.

    It's better!!!

Still think the LG picture is excellent though, just not superbly, doubly excellent. And it is more user friendly for the family.

I must have had a dodgy PW6 from the beginning - although dodgy is probably the wrong word, it was extremely good (better than previous CRT) and I was more than happy with it - but I am glad it got broken.
The PW6 was my first plasma so I had nothing to compare it to. The picture I had at home was much better than any setups I saw in the shops when viewing so I did not realise there was so much extra potential there.

My problem now is what am I going to spent the extra money on!!! I really should update my current £250 home cimema setup and get some decent sound to match the picture......... or do I get another screen to go in the bedroom - there's nearly enough money left.
It's gonna have to be sound!! Amp and speakers, here (hear) we come.

    And then some..... :D

And any spare iscans whether + or not, will only be given with the missus included, and believe me that will be much more expensive than buying one yourselves (and the Iscans better to look at  )
