Use a better browser (Firebird?). Better still - get a mac. Microsoft do not appear to treat customers with the respect they deserve.

spybot is a decent ad-blocker type tool.. seems to work OK as long as you keep it up to date..

Messenger is just a windows service.. not needed on home PCs at all..

    do the following:

    Start > Run

    type services.msc and click ok

right click on the messenger service, and set startup type to disabled

when you next reboot, messenger will be nothing but a bad memory..

there's a load of other stuff you can disable if anybody's interested.. half the windows services are designed around Client workstation use on LANs..

Gimme a shout and i'll post the list of "services which should not really be running on your home PC" enhanced security as well as freeing up some CPU/RAM resources...

If microsoft shipped windows with everything disabled by default, people would only moan about that too wouldn't they.. ;)

Don't forget the free google toolbar. It has a popup blocker and a good autofill. You don't have to use it too search (so avoiding all those shopping comparison sites!!!). Just search on google for it! It does seem pretty good.

    Cheers

    Google toolbar is great.

Once XP service pack 2 is out you will find that a pop blocker will be part of Internet Explorer 6....
