Voted early because this shot was my favourite since the beginning. nonumb got my vote this time with his Cardiff Centre shot. It just pleases my eye so much and I'm a huge fan of blue, so there you go. Plus the ghostly figure gives it extra kick. RajP, icemanonline and Ibcus did a fantastic job, too!!! Well done everyone for us having even this many entries on this busy month :) Looking forward to the next one!

My vote this month goes to robfjonesuk

My favourite photo of the month however was from Mart_73 but unfortunately it was the one in the not valid thread

Too many good entries this month, Ibcus got my vote as it was the sort of shot I was originally going for but just couldn't manage. Can't put names to the photos as I'm on a crappy connection on holiday at the minute just trying to make sure I get a vote in but I really liked the Cardiff centre and the train bridge shots also. Well done everybody!

I really liked so many of them but went for ibcus in the end. I liked the ghostly figures

I suppose everybody is free to interpret the theme as they please in both taking the picture and also in choosing which one they would like to vote for.

The obvious exception is when there is a stipulated rule such as no post processing or shutter speeds of 3 second or more.

I'm new here, just curious why people are voting for a picture that isn't really an urban night scape?
I'd also be interested to know which photo you're referring to?

IMO all entries fulfill the theme in their own unique way.

Yes, I would be interested to know which picture you mean, as well?
To me, 'urban night scape' wasn't an easy feat. As a woman, I don't really fancy prowling in any city at night time taking pictures. Carrying around my relatively expensive camera kit. Hence I had to do what I can for this months theme.
Had you a better example yourself, maybe you could post it in the 'not valid thread'. As for the theme, there's always been room for interpretation and personal views.

Urban...
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or located in a city.
2. Characteristic of the city or city life.

I seem to have caused a stir, first of all every picture in this comp is excellent in it's own way, in my interpretation of urban, I feel a sense of inner city/town from a street level is important, the photo should exhibit the human interactions within this environment, I feel the key point is the majority of definitions of Urban, the word IN is used, 'in the city', 'in the urban environment.
There seems to be images in the comp which I would class more of a cityscape, taken outside the urban environment,

cityscape - a viewpoint toward a city or other heavily populated area.
Fair enough, I actually agree with you pretty much :) And my original ideas were along those lines, just never got the chance to realise them.
You being new, hop in in the competition next month :) New blood always welcome!

I was referring to robs cityscape. Lovely shot but still it's a cityscape!!!!
Definition of "Urban" form Wikipedia:-

"An urban area is characterized by higher population density and vast human features in comparison to areas surrounding it. Urban areas may be cities, towns or conurbations".

Notice "cities" in the definition. Sure, it's a cityscape, but the fact that the shot was taken at night means it's also an "Urban Nightscape".

A nice little experiment and voyage of discovery for you.....

....go to flickr, now search for urban, take note of the style of image in the majority of shots...

...now search for cityscape!

The difference is pretty clear, Urban is Urban, a cityscape isn't!!!!!
Quite frankly I don't care what your interpretation of "urban nightscape" is, I have my own, as do others here. Nor do I care what flickr searches throw up!!

If you don't think Rob's photo fits the theme, that's your opinion. Just don't vote for it, simple.

Each to their own and all that, mate!

To be honest, people here are generally courteous toward each other and don't throw sarcastic spikes in every sentence they type. I think you're over reacting here a little bit. It was a general interest towards your opinion and nobody was rude towards you. You have a right to have your opinion as much as the next guy and even if you do find a dictionary explanation to something, it doesn't mean that you get to ram it down other people's throats as the ONLY truth. Urban is anything that is not rural. And if it bothers you that much, that we posted urban cityscapes rather than urban night life candids, then I guess it can't be helped.. but it's really not right to start talking to people in the manner you did.
Better luck next time. And even if this is the wonderful world of internet, where everyone is faceless, it doesn't mean anyone gets to behave like a jerk just because we don't know who they are and where they are. If you like rudeness, then I guess it's better to find another forum.
