Would be nice if they did what E4 does and set the ident for 16:9 screening, standard ratio viewers would then not be bothered by it too much.

Even better use the interactive "red dot" for channel ident and then the user can remove it yet still be aware of it's presence when switching on.

i found that my life became much better after i dropped sky, bought a freeview box and now only watch US TV shows on DVD. that way i get a

    decent picture,
    no subscription,
    no logos,
get to watch TV shows when i want to watch them,
    they are uncut,
no bin lid on my house

    LOVE TV - HATE SKY!

hardly ever watch TV now except for the news and a few things on the beeb.

Same reasons here for dumping $ky - I hate logos with a passion. Haven't used the old digibox for months and finally disconnected it at the weekend - had a freeview box for about 6 months.

£500 a year buys a lot of DVD's of things we want to watch.

I haven't watched Deadwood yet but funny you should post this as last night whilst flicking through the channels, I noticed the new Sky One logo and thought it looked further over.
Start Trek Voyager was showing and I had an old episode saved to disk so I played it back and the new logo has definitely moved over to the right and down a bit.
I notice also that the Sky is now solid, not outlined as it was before and worst of all, the One is blue!

Still, if you think that's bad, you should see Turkish TV.
Not only is the screen covered in numerous logos, they actually show ad's and trailers during the program, on both sides and along the bottom.
Each channel does it differently too; some squeeze the picture, others just slap the ad on top.
It is so bad that some times there is barely 50% of the actual program visible.

My guess is it won't be long before Sky is like that...

What I really have trouble understanding is exactly what they think they're achieving by always having the Sky One logo showing?
It's not as if it's advertising the channel.
I know it's Sky One, I purposely selected it to watch a program!
    Muppets!

I'm not going to defend the use of DOG's, but SKY1 is rather restrained compared to other channels, at least they don't have an animated ident nor advertise a program and times along side. They don't display the next program in the final few minutes of the current one either.

If SKY1 wants to improve it's image it should follow the Five route and remove the DOG altogether, gives that channel are far more upmarket feel.
Infact removing onscreen graphics can be used to give a positive spin for marketing purposes and certainly important to many as SKY are now selling Plasma displays and screen burn is an issue.

    Hi,

The Sky One logo isn't moving closer to the centre of the screen. It's been cunningly placed where it is, for a specific reason...

Basically, when a show is in 4:3, and you watch the show on a 4:3 TV, the DOG will appear in the top left corner of your picture.

When you watch a 4:3 show on a 16:9 TV, you get the same image as above, but with black bars at the left and right of your screen.

Then, when you watch a 16:9 show on a 4:3 TV, you get widescreen bars at the top and bottom of the screen, but the logo now looks really close to the centre of the screen. HOWEVER, what Sky One has done, is this: the logo is places where it is for 16:9 shows, so that if a viewer with a 4:3 TV sets their digibox to show only a 4:3 picture (regardless of whether the show's in widescreen or not), the Sky DOG will still appear in the top left corner of their TV's. Hence, Sky can still get to plague your TV, unless you have a Zoom function on a 16:9 TV, in which case for widescreen shows, you zoom in to remove the DOG, but end-up cutting off some of the picture you actually want to see.

Sky are clever, but snidey little beggars for doing this! Try it! If you have a 4:3 TV, watch any widescreen show, and then reset your Sky digibox so that it only shows a 4:3 image. The logo will still appear, but very very tightly in the top left corner of the screen, where it can continue to plague your life, and cause screen-burn!

    Thanks, Sky!

    It is.
In the test I did with 2 screenshots with the old and new logo, the new logo is further to the right and slightly lower.

happened to look at the 'skymix' logo this morning, and it is soooo much more subtle than the new enamel badge skyone use

Are skyone & skymix run by the same people? - if so, there is a serious inbalance somewhere.

"Thank you for your e-mail about the new Sky One Logo.

I am sorry that you feel the new logo, spoiled your enjoyment of Sky One's new powerfull drama 'Deadwood' on Tuesday 21/09/04.

May I explain that, this will provide a sophisticated, modern and distinctive look to Sky One, which supports the channel's ambition to deliver unique and high-quality programming."

No rule that says everyone has to like the same thing:)
If that was the case I would be watching soaps :suicide:

I personally think it is probably the most accurate representation of the "wild west" ever made, maybe not the most entertaining western but perhaps similar to how Das Boot revealed life aboard a submarine and not the whitewashed war movies that showed us UK and US boats.

Ian McShane is excellent and I hated Lovejoy :)

I cancelled sky four years ago when it went over £30 and started buying dvd's instead.
I now have 200 dvd's and have bought a freeview recorder and am much happier.
also I haven't given rupert murdock a lot of money !

Sky should realise how angry people are with that SKY ONE EXCLUSIVE right in middle of the programme

    I e-mailed to complain too

We should have a forum sticky or campaign organised especially as so many here have plasmas

I would cancel Sky if it wasn't for football

Might cancel anyway as really annoyed about their crass logos
    E4 just same

Thats what they count on! the truth is you pay your money and takes your choice. and the choice you have made is have your TV programmes cut, to suffer 18mins of ads every hour and to variable picture quality depending on what mood sky are in this week.

From an AV point of view - i really dislike SKY

i have just sent this email and now await a completely crap response.if it wasnt for the sport i would also be looking elsewhere i think.

not only is it a lot more obtrusive than the last it is also closer to the middle of the screen than it is the corner.WHY is it necessary to have your logo`s blazed across the screen? we are fully aware of what channel we are watching and dont need a constant reminder.do you have any idea the effect your logo`s have on rear projection tv`s and plasma screens? the image is permanently burnt into the screen itself.would you be prepared to pay for the repair of my or any of your customers screens because of the logo`s? i think as soon as my subscription is up i will be leaving SKY.

    p.s

is there anyone one higher up that can reply to my question as i dont believe i will get the response i need from a general enquirys operator.thanks in advance.

    here is the reply :boring:

Thank you for your email about the new Sky Logo.

I am sorry that you feel the new logo is obtrusive.

May I explain, this will provide a sophisticated, modern and distinctive look to Sky One, which supports the channel's ambition to deliver high-quality and unique programming.

I was sorry to learn of your concerns with regard to the possible damage to your television set. May I explain that Sky always advise customers to follow the manufacturer's instructions of their specific television set. Therefore, to ally your concerns, I would advise you to direct your question to the maker of your television to obtain their guidelines for any problems arising out of static pictures on screen.

However, I would like to confirm that all Sky channel pictures are transmitted within the technical specifications set down by the ITC.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Sky. We always welcome customers' comments and actively encourage viewers' feedback.

    Kind regards

    Gwen Owenson

    Expected BS response from sky.....
The problem really is that they have no competition in the pay tv niche, that's why they can dictate prices and the amount of adverts they have.
If you look into the situation in other countries, none of the pay tv fees are as high as sky and you don't get much for your money.

The only chance we have is either to bring in a new competitor for sky, or to really boycott their 'service' in numbers that HURT them.
