Daughter could not get into her 53 Nissan micra late last night. Key fob would not open doors. Managed to get in using passenger door emergency key entry but nothing works on the car. No lights, car ignition will not turn (only the battery light on) no internal lights. Replaced the car battery 1 month ago. Cigarette lighter still has power so it must be something with the key ?
Any advice, will ring green flag to get it towed home this morning- but not all of them seem to understand the older cars....
Thanks in advance

Even though you replaced the battery i'd still first be checking the voltage on the battery.

Ok- jump started first time, no problem- have driven it around for about an hour to give the battery a good charge. The key still doesn't work the central locking though. Have put a new battery in that as well. Have tried the advice someone else suggested before... Turn key 6 times in 10 seconds etc etc. No joy. What do you think ?

Have you read the resync procedure from your handbook?

The turn key 6 times in 10 seconds is for pre 2003 models only.

If you can't reset the fob or can't find the rest procedure then speak to your dealer as you may have to have the keys reset on the dealer diagnostic machine.

have you had the dead battery investigated after the jump start and an hour driving around? As mentioned already new batteries can have faults and the alternator and charging systems certainly can. Presumably the roadside person did quick checks before jump starting it?

Nope I jump started it- unfortunately don't have a manual as when we bought it in Feb he didn't have any original books/manuals and only 1 key.
We've had the timing chain replaced as that was shot to pieces/ new starter motor/ new battery as a precaution. Daughter is going travelling end Jan so think she's just going to have to cope with unlocking it manually!
Not worth spending a fortune on it

If you paid for the battery replacement then take it back to the garage and ask them to check the battery and alternator. It shouldn't have gone totally flat unless something was left powered for hours on end (lights, stereo etc.)
They might be able to sort the key issue at the same time, no harm in asking as this was a consequence of the flat battery.

In case anyone is interested. Found a place in Palmers green that recoded the key for me. Now central locking and ignition all working- bargain at £25 !
