    Hi,

I've got an Advent computer which has on-board audio. When I look at the hardware properties in Windows in just says it's a generic AC97 device. Is there a chance that it could be persuaded to deliver sp/dif out of one of it's connectors? If so how would I do that, I don't see any options for it. Of course that might just mean it's impossible!

    Thanks for any help,
    Dogastus.

You'll need a new soundcard. Sorry!

Thanks for confirming my fears, Big Adam. It wasn't the price of the card that bothered me as I won't need a fancy one, it's just the using up of a PCI slot!

Not that I know lots about computer. My HTPC (just built a few days) has a mainboard with built in soundcard which is C-Media 9739A software and is compliance with AC97 v2.2 (don't know what is means, copied straight from booklet)
But anyway I get my sound out throught the spdif. It works grand and gives me no problems.
    Have a go anyway dogastus.

Dogastus - Why not get one of the newer motherboards from the likes of Abit which have onboard AC97 with Optical out SPDIF.
