    Hello from Australia,

As you all know from the "secrets" website many of the new dvd players feature the Faroudja Fli-2310 version of DCDI. This chip only works via a digital output; to my knowledge this DCDI chip does not work via scart, component or any other analogue port.
What de-interlacer/scaler then do the new players like the new Denons (eg Denon 3910 ) use if you are sending the signal via scart/ component? The high end yamaha, onkyo, meridian are using Fli- 2310
Im a bit loathe to fork out big $ for DCDI if it aint gonna work. Thats what happened when every one rushed out to bUY that Samsung last year that had DVI and DCDI But the DCDI only worked via the DVI plug

    Cheers...

DCDi is to do with how Fardoudja treat diagonal moving lines in video content that needs de-interlaced. It's affect will be visible on the analogue component outputs at 480p and 576p. If you want to use the scaled output of some players to go higher you will probably find that this is only possible on the digital video outputs hdmi/dvi.

    Hope this is of use

    dear Gordon,
thank you for your comments. As per the faroudja/genesis website the earlier version of the DCDI chipset called Fli-2301 worked via digital OR analogue plugs. But The new version of DCDI called Fli-2310 is digital out only.
Virtually all the new high end DVD players are using DCDI Fli 2310.

Unfortunately in australia our CRT tV's only have component/scart video in sockets. The experts on "secrets" have made passing components about players where DCDI only worked if u were sending the signal via DVI or HDMI.

    Still confused

    William,

The Meridians output analogue progressive video. This is, afaiaa, de-interlaced by their on board faroudja chips. It may well be that the 2310 CHIP only has a digital output but that is not to say that the manufacturer cannot add a DAC after it to create the analogue signal.....The older chip perhaps had a dac built in to it as there were no digital video outputs so no requirement to have a digital video out.....

Just checked the secrets website....Look at the review for the Denon 3910...it has the F chip you talk about....they mention the quality of the 480P Analogue output....
