I've got one of these. I bought it new around 10 years ago to replace a Pioneer bought in 1985. It was not top of the range, but was all I could afford. Build quality is good. Sound quality is OK (ish); plays CDR when it feels like it. Possibly my laser needs a clean. Quality wise it plays CDs better than a Denon 1710 DVD player, but that is not saying much. Any modern CD player should be better than the 635. I saw one sold on ebay recently for £5 - gives you some idea of its value.
